EuropeHouse Project

A two-year funding project for the promotion and further development of the Europe House Srebrenica began in July 2024. The project is being carried out jointly by the Europazentrum Baden-Württemberg with Europe Direct Stuttgart, the University of Salzburg, the board of the Europehouse Srebrenica and the staff of the Europehouse Srebrenica. The project is supported by the state capital Stuttgart, the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg in Germany and funds from the Salzburg region.
The aim is to develop the Europehouse Srebrenica into a European competence center that serves as a coordination point for joint and local cooperation projects and as a center for European policy education and contact point in the region. The aim is for it to serve as a model for other Europe Houses in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The project consists of five modules, which follow one after the other:

MODULE 1

Feasibility & Needs assessment and exploration of the
necessary skills development I (Capacity Building I)

Feasibility & Needs assessment and exploration of the necessary skills development
(Capacity Building I)

Module 1 clarifies how the Europehouse Srebrenica can be further professionalized and institutionalized as a “meeting place”. The aim is to clarify how the previous experience of integration work can be built on, what further requirements the local population places on the meeting center and what resources/capacities need to be built up to enable a genuine transfer of knowledge, experience and expertise, both for the city of Srebrenica and for the region.
To this end, many committed citizens and officials in Srebrenica were interviewed in the summer of 2024.

MODULE 2

Educational Center - European Policy Education

(Capacity Building II)

As a competence center, the Europehouse Srebrenica will continue to contribute to a better knowledge of the European Union. However, the aim is not to impart knowledge about the EU in a textbook manner, but to share knowledge and experiences in a realistic and experiential way. The Europehouse Srebrenica is to be enabled to provide and disseminate targeted information about the European Union and European networking opportunities.

Employees of the Europehouse Srebrenica are also trained and educated in this module. Citizens from Srebrenica also take part in meeting programs with civil society actors from Stuttgart and Salzburg.

MODULE 3

Information, Contact and General Education Point

(Information and Cultural Contact Point, Civil Society Forum)

Module 3 is aimed specifically at the citizens of Srebrenica. The Europehouse Srebrenica can become a civil society nucleus. It is about direct networking with the Stuttgart region and the Salzburg region.
Initial offers are based on existing contacts and experience from measures already implemented in the area of citizens’ meetings, promotion of the arts and initial European policy measures.

MODULE 4

Project coordination office and publicity

(multiplier events, stakeholder involvement, dissemination)
The aim of the European Competence Center Europehouse Srebrenica is to act as an ideas workshop to identify and initiate projects that harness the innovative power of the region. For example, a project on the use of sustainable energy is to be launched together with local businesses.
A project on the economic opportunities for women in the region is also being considered. The impetus and interest for the projects must come from the aforementioned groups, which can, however, be coordinated via their Europehouse.

MODULE 5

Evaluation

(Evaluation, Recommendation, Scalability, Transferability)
The final Module 5 is intended to document the evaluation of Modules 1 to 4 and describe in concrete terms how the Europe House Srebrenica was set up and planned. The involvement of political actors, especially those with a European political profile and representatives of the EU in the countries of the Western Balkans, should be facilitated with the help of recommendations.
Part of Module 5 is a public European political-scientific closing event, which is to take place in Srebrenica and / or in Sarajevo.
