About Us

The Europehouse Srebrenica is an information center on Europe in Srebrenica and plays an important role in the culture of remembrance and reconciliation. It was founded in 2016 to commemorate the Srebrenica massacre and to come to terms with history. Today it is an information center that informs the citizens of Srebrenica about Europe, the European Union and perspectives for Bosnia-Herzegovina as part of Europe. The offer includes many activities. Here are some important aspects:

INFORMATION
& EDUCATION:

Europehouse Srebrenica provides information about current European Union programs that are also important for the citizens of Srebrenica. The topics range from information evenings on Erasmus+ and EU funding programs for the economy to study trips and meeting and exchange programs.

DIALOGUE &
RECONCILIATION:

Europehouse promotes dialog between different population groups, especially between Bosniaks and Serbs. It is a space for discussion, understanding and reconciliation.

INTERNATIONAL
COOPERATION:

The Europehouse Srebrenica has been supported by institutions in the Salzburg region (Austria) and Stuttgart (Germany) for years. From 2024 6to 2026, a funding program will run specifically to expand the Europehouse and enable citizens to take part in civil society encounter programs with partners in Salzburg and Stuttgart.

REMEMBRANCE
& REAPPRAISAL:

The Europehouse serves as a place of remembrance for the more than 8,000 Bosniaks who were murdered during the massacre. It enables visitors to come to terms with the tragic past and not forget the victims.

HOUSE OF
GOOD TONES:

The Europehouse Srebrenica has its offices in the House of Good Tones in Srebrenica. The House of Good Tones brings together young people from Bosnia and Herzegovina to make music and be creative together. This project aims to build bridges and strengthen the community through art and music.

Overall, the Europehouse is an important place that helps to keep the memory of the massacre alive and at the same time create hope for a better future. It is a place of learning, reflection and commitment to peace and reconciliation. The managing director of Europehouse, Almir Dudić, actively promotes information about Europe and the European Union and encourages dialog between all population groups in Srebrenica. The Salzburger Bildungswerk and the Europazentrum Stuttgart have been cooperating with the Europehouse since 2016 and organize study trips and lectures to raise awareness of the importance of Europe for the Western Balkans region.

Almir Dudic is the director of EuropeHouse Srebrenica. He is responsible for all programmes and activities and serves as the first point of contact for the citizens of Srebrenica. He organises and teaches German to children and young people at the Europahaus Srebrenica. He is also part of the project team at the EuropeHouse Srebrenica.

As a political science graduate and long-time employee in the “Democracy & Europe” department of the Salzburg Education Centre, Wolfgang Forthofer is particularly concerned with the preservation of democracy. As a European, he loves the diversity of this continent and values co-operation in the European Union – for him the peace project par excellence. Wolfgang Forthofer will continue to work for a common democratic Europe at the EuropeHouse Srebrenica.

Dr. Martin Kilgus is a political scientist, journalist, trainer, moderator and consultant specializing in international relations, migration and integration, development cooperation and social diversity. Martin Kilgus studied in Stuttgart and Washington D.C. He is a project manager for funding programs of the European Commission and as a certified trainer and coach leads training courses for the Foreign Service in Europe, especially in Berlin and Brussels. Previously, he worked as a project manager at the Robert Bosch Stiftung and served for more than twenty years as deputy head of the editorial department “SWR International” at Südwestrundfunk Public Radio/TV in Stuttgart. He is Honorary Chairman of the Europa Zentrum Baden-Württemberg, board member of the German United Nations Association and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Geißstraße 7 Foundation in Stuttgart. He is also a member of the Europehouse Srebrenica project team.

Thomas gained a 25 years’ experience in civic education. He specialized in study tours and further education for teachers as well as financial management in European educational projects. For more than a decade he was director of EUNET, a network of more than 70 European education centers all over Europe. He is a member of the advisory board of the Europehouse Marienberg and treasurer of the European Academy North-Rhine Westphalia. Today he works as controller at the leading German research center on dementia.
Dr. Roman Puff ​

EuropeHouse Srebrenica

Roman Puff is a historian. He has been working at the University of Salzburg as a Senior Scientist since 2010, initially at the Department of Public Law, and since 2013 at the Salzburg Centre of European Union Studies – SCEUS, where he took over the role of Executive Director in 2022. Roman has also been involved in the Europahaus Srebrenica association since 2016 and was appointed to the board in 2019.

(Assistant Professor and coordinator of the Salzburg Centre of European Union Studies) holds a Master’s Degree in Political Science and a doctorate in Law from the University of Salzburg. She has worked for TACIS projects in Ukraine and Russia. Her research focus is on democracy and human rights promotion as aspects of external governance of the European Union, the European neighbourhood policy and the relations between the European Union and Russia. She has published on the question of the democratic development in Russia and Ukraine, minority legislation in Russia and in 2008 a book on the Autonomous Republic of Crimea from the perspective of international law. She is also a member of the publishing committee of the Austrian Journal for Political Science (Österreichische Zeitschrift für Politikwissenschaft). She is also a member of the Europehouse Srebrenica project team.
